A senior Congress leader and a noted doctor today joined opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Advocate and political activist Abdul Gani Dar and noted physician and social activist Manzoor Ahmad joined the party at a function here, a PDP spokesman said.

He said the two were welcomed into the party-fold by PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

Dar has been associated with the Congress for the last four decades and was presently its Pulwama district president, the spokesman said.

The two said they have decided to join the PDP due to its "pro-people and revolutionary policies".

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti appointed Nayeema Ahmad Mehjoor as party's Media Advisor.

Daughter-in-law of famous Kashmiri poet Ghulam Mohammad Mehjoor, Nayeema, a broadcaster, had joined the PDP earlier this year.

Nayeema worked with the BBC Urdu Service before joining politics.
