Senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala on Friday slammed the BJP-led government in Haryana, claiming that as per the latest NCRB data, crime had increased in the state.
"The spurt in heinous crimes during the BJP rule has been proclaimed by the latest National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) data for 2018," he said in a statement here.
The BJP formed government for a second term in Haryana in October last year with the support of the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP).
The Congress leader claimed that the state recorded 1.08 lakh cases of different crimes in one year.
"The state has got the dubious distinction of recording the third highest crime rate in the country as 381 cases were reported per 1 lakh population, far higher than the crime rates of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh," Surjewala said.
Criminal incidents have increased for the fifth consecutive year in a row, he claimed and cited NCRB figures.

Haryana has reported 79,947, 84,466, 88,527 and 97,924 cases of crime in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 respectively, Surjewala said.
This reflects the "total collapse of the law and order machinery" in the state, he alleged.
The Congress leader said as many as 1,140 cases of murder, 1,296 cases of rape, 155 cases of gangrape and 5,070 cases of kidnapping and abduction, were registered in Haryana in 2018.
Similarly, crime against Scheduled Castes also witnessed a jump of over 26 per cent and 961 cases were registered in 2018, he claimed.
Surjewala also claimed that the state reported 18,576 thefts and burglary, 18,196 auto thefts, 323 extortions, 502 robberies, 194 dacoities in one year.
"People are suffering but the BJP leadership is not bothered about their problems and they are just trying to distract the people by dividing them on caste, region and religion," he alleged.
