Expressing disappointment at the functioning of the party in its role as the principal opposition in the country, senior Congress leader in Kerala A C Jose today called for an organisational revamp.

Jose, a former assembly speaker and veteran trade union leader, said the voice of the Congress had been feeble on issues like rail fare hike clamped on people after the Narendra Modi Government came to power at the Centre.

Addressing a convention of the Kerala Building and Road Workers Federation here, he said the party should also have campaigned more vigorously in Maharashtra and Haryana polls.

Jose, an AICC member for long, said this situation was in sharp contrast to the way the party under late Indira Gandhi reacted to every issue after its defeat in 1977 and returned to power soon by regaining the trust of the people.

"The prevailing circumstances called for a revamp of the organisation at all levels," he added.
