Two senior Congress leaders today demanded immediate action against the police official who may have been responsible for registering a false case of arson against NSUI activists, which led to the alleged self-immolation of a Union leader in protest.

Senior party leaders Dhirendra Pratap and Vijay Saraswat who visited Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi to meet NSUI leader Rohit Pandey who tried to allegedly commit suicide by immolating himself at Ramnagar in Nainital district on Tuesday, said if NSUI activists have been falsely implicated in the case immediate action be taken against the responsible official.

"If any police official is guilty of lodging a false case against NSUI activists, he should be immediately brought to book," the two Congress leaders said in a joint statement here.

Pandey, an NSUI leader at Ramnagar in Nainital district received serious burn injuries when he allegedly immolated himself in protest against some of the Union leaders being booked in a case of arson.

Pandey was demanding the transfer of a police SHO, who according to him had lodged a false case against five Union activists for torching three bikes parked outside ABVP office at Maldhan in the district during student union polls recently.
