Cong leaders in Coochbehar join TMC: Mukul Roy

Many Congress leaders in Coochbehar district in north Bengal today joined the ruling Trinamool Congress, TMC all-India general secretary Mukul Roy said.

Roy claimed that the entire opposition plank, comprising Congress, CPI(M) and Forward Bloc, in the district stood marginalised with the latest development.

"With this it is proved once again that Congress has lost all relevance in state politics. CPI(M) has already retired hurt, while Congress turned irrelevant following a massive mandate for Trinamool Congress in the recent panchayat polls," he said.

WBPCC President Pradip Bhattacharya while reacting to the comments made by Roy wondered, "If Congress has really become irrelevant in state politics, why TMC is still bothered about this national party?"

He, however, did admit that some of their leaders had indeed joined TMC. "But that won't make any difference in the state's political equation," he felt.

Roy said TMC would contest both in Uttar Dinajpur and Malda districts in the elections to form panchayat boards as the panchayat result has created a hung situation there.

"We hope all anti-CPI(M) people will extend their support to us," Roy said.
