Police took into custody former Congress MP Ponnam Prabhakar and several others during a protest against the visit of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Chinna Mulkanoor village in the district today.
Prabhakar, Karimnagar district Congress chief Katkam Mruthyunjayam, former MLA Bomma Venkateshwar and 30 others staged a demonstration against the state government for its stand on the Thotapalli reservoir.
Prabhakar alleged that Chief Minister Rao had earlier announced construction of a reservoir at Thotapalli in the district, but now the state was instead allocating funds for a reservoir at Gouravelli in Husnabad assembly segment, and was planning to scrap the Thotapalli project.
The arrested Congress leaders were later released, police said.
