Congress minority cell chief Nadeem Javed said he was allegedly manhandled by unidentified persons here on Tuesday.

Javed filed a complaint with the police over the incident. He, however, said he did not know the persons who roughed him up.

"A complaint has been received from Mr Javed and we are looking into the matter," a senior police official said.

The incident took place outside the Islamic Centre here.

"I met a few journalists over lunch. When I came out about 3-4 people tried to catch hold of me and pull me...some allegations were made that I owed money and so on. I said if there was any transaction I have made, there would be a record and there are institutions they can approach," Javed said.
