Cong MP conducts surprise inspection at govt college

Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla today conducted a surprise inspection of a government college at Ajnala town here.

The college is one of its kind in border area of Amritsar, but it was learnt that the college was not delivering good results, said Aujla, adding that he personally visited the college in order to get the first hand information.

The college was established in 1974 and awarded with a Grade 'B' institution in 2016 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.

A total of 285 students are pursuing B.A, B.Com., BCA, PGDCA for which 39 teaching/non-teaching posts were approved but 21 are still vacant, the MP said.
 

Even the post of principal is vacant along with 12 posts of professors/assistant professors out of 14 total posts. 12 posts of non-teaching/class 4 out of 24 posts are vacant.

Aujla further said that other than filling the vacant posts, the college infrastructure also needs to be revamped.

"The entire campus needs renovations, repairs and installation of latest equipment to fully function and cater to the needs of students," he said.

Incomplete stadium complex needs to be completed, basketball, badminton and volleyball courts need repair, ceiling of college auditorium is falling off due to which the auditorium cannot be used safely and needs immediate repairs, he said.

Aujla further said that he is taking this matter to the state government as well as the Centre.
