Congress Whip in Lok Sabha K C Venugopal, today demanded a high level central investigation into the violent incidents at Karipur International Airport in Kozhikode.

The Alappuzha MP also urged the Central government to "punish" the officials of the CISF and fire department officials of Airport Authority of India (AAI) who went "wild" at the airport risking the lives of passengers.

"They were creating a war-like situation at the airport.

Such incidents are unheard of in the country. This should be first and last incident.

"So the government should act...The Home Ministry and Civil Aviation Ministry should conduct a high-level probe... identify the guilty and punish them. They don't deserve any mercy," Venugopal, who was MoS for Civil Aviation in the UPA government, told PTI.

He also condemned the alleged action of some officials blocking the runway and not allowing the flights to land at the airport during the clash last night.

Flight operations resumed at the airport today after an over 6-hour shutdown following last night's violent clashes between CISF and AAI personnel that left a jawan dead. Fifteen people have been booked for murder.
