Congress today demanded that the Jammu and Kashmir government should remove Value Added Tax from food items in Army canteens in the state.
"We appeal the government to remove VAT from Army canteen items with immediate effect to facilitate ex-soldiers and their families along with recognising the services of soldiers who spent most of their time away from homes serving the nation," MP from Jammu-Poonch constituency, Madan Lal Sharma said at a public meeting at Sainik Colony on outskirts of the city today.
He said this will be a tribute by state government to the ex-soldiers who have rendered meritorious services to the nation while guarding the border and fighting militancy.
Sharma demanded facilities for the ex-servicemen in the state to be at par with other Indian states and appealed to the government to increase quota for re-employment of ex-servicemen in the state government.
