Protesters and supporters of local Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu today had a scuffle here in which few photo journalists were allegedly manhandled, police said.
A group of Youth Congress activists allegedly manhandled some media photographers when they were taking photographs of a scuffle between the protesters and supporters of Bittu here at Circuit house, police said.
The protesters, who were some eight in numbers, including three women, were raising slogans against Bittu and showed black flags to him when he reached the Circuit House to participate in a meeting of the party, police said.
The protesters alleged that Bittu has not paid a long pending bill of publicity material prepared for his campaign during the last Lok Sabha elections, a charge denied by Bittu.
On seeing this, supporters of Bittu reached the spot and allegedly thrashed the protesters, eye witness said.
Photo journalists present on the spot also clicked their cameras to catch the scene.
Some youth Congress workers tried to allegedly snatch cameras of theses photographers and raised slogans against the media, police said.
After a complaint from photo journalists, around four youth Congress activists were taken into custody, police said.
Meanwhile, police intervened and prevented the situation from turning ugly.
However, Bittu said that that the black flag demonstration against him was organised by the Akali Dal because he had strongly criticised recent Moga bus molestation episode in the Lok Sabha.
The Badals were badly upset over that, he added.
