Opposition Congress today flayed Chief Minister N Rangasamy's move to convene a joint meeting of leaders of all political parties to persuade the Centre to grant statehood for Puducherry.
"Congress is opposed to the move and consequently there is no question of the party responding to the meeting, Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister V.Vaithilingam said.
He described the move as "an attempt to divert the attention of the people from the failure of the administration on various counts.
