Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) today paid rich tributes to legendary martyr Shaheed Udham Singh here on his martyrdom day.

"This day has a great importance in the history of India as numerous freedom fighters sacrificed their lives for the sake of freedom of India. We should learn a lot from the sacrifices made and the sufferings faced by those martyrs in the sense that the Indians should be ever ready to make sacrifices when some one dares to challenge the national unity and integration of Great India," said a statement issued by the party here.

On this occasion, several PPCC leaders, including General Secretary Major Singh Bhaini, Jagtar Singh Burj, Jang Bahadur Singh, Gursharan Singh Riar were present.

Earlier, in wake of the seven-day state mourning observed nation-wide in honour of late former President A P J Abdul Kalam, Punjab Government had postponed its annual state-level function to mark the martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh.
