Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai today accused the Congress of creating fear in the minds of people and portraying his party as being against Christians in the state.

Addressing a gathering at Cuncolim, about 50 kilometres from here, Sardesai said that he would be the first to oppose any "anti-minority" measure of the Manohar Parrikar government.

As per the Census 2011, a little over 25 per cent of Goa's population is Christian.

The GFP, with three MLAs, is a constituent of the BJP-led Goa government and Sardesai is the state's agriculture minister.

"It (anti-Christian) is absolutely false. I have even told the Archbishop (of Goa) that if this government takes any decision against Christians, then we will be the first to protest," Sardesai said.

"The Congress need not create fear in the minds of the people," the GFP leader added.

He claimed that the Parrikar government was stable and would complete its tenure without any hindrance.
