Congress workers staged a demonstration in front of Odisha police headquarters here today alleging deterioration in law and order situation of Cuttack city.

The demonstrators, led by the party's Cuttack city unit president Muhammad Moqim, submitted a memorandum to IGP (law and order) B N Jha expressing concern over 'deteriorating' law and order situation.

"The concerns expressed by the delegation would be brought to the notice of the Commissionerate police and they will certainly look into it," said the IGP after receiving the memorandum from Congress leaders.

The memorandum criticised the city police claiming the force was unable to face tackle the antisocial elements in the city in recent days.

The Congress cited last week's murder of a trader in Malgodown, who was shot dead by unidentified persons in broad daylight.

"It has been over six days and the police are still clueless about the identity and motive of the assailants," Moqim alleged claiming policing in the city has worsened.

In less than two months, the city witnessed at least three firing incidents and the police could not solve any one of them, he added.
