Congress workers tried to halt trains in Gauriganj and Nihalgarh (Jagdishpur) in Amethi district today to protest against the alleged anti-farmer and anti-people policies of the BJP-led Central government.

They raised slogans against the Centre accusing it of allegedly stopping or interrupting projects started by Rahul Gandhi in his Amethi Parliamentary constituency.

They marched towards Gauriganj railway station from the party office here and tried to stop some trains including Amritsar Mail.

The protest was led by Rahul Gandhi's representative Chandrakant Dubey and party's district president Yogendra Mishra.

Later, they submitted a memorandum to Amethi DM, Jagat Raj Tripathi addressed to the Governor demanding scrapping of the Land Acquisition Bill.

The memorandum also demands action against those who are guilty of alleged snooping on Rahul.

Besides, it also demands checking corruption, inflation, and asks for help for farmers whose crops have been damaged by recent untimely rains and hailstorms.

Dubey told PTI that if the Centre does not check its corrupt practices, Congress will again take to the streets.

Senior party leaders Anil Singh, Rajiv Singh and several others attended the march.
