Congress leaders today burned government's effigy while protesting against the substantial hike in the salary of Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal and other ministers.

They also demanded an increase in the pension given to the senior citizens.

District Congress president Rajinder Beri alongwith other congress leaders took out a rally demanding the immediate lowering of the salary hike announced by the government few days back.

"The financial condition of the state is quite poor. Also, the pension provided to senior citizens, that is Rs 250 per month, is irregular. This government should be ashamed and focus on this matter rather than their own salary hike," Beri said.

In another such protest, Congress leaders today burned effigies of Punjab forest and wildlife minister Chunni Lal Bhagat and mayor Sunil Jyoti, while objecting to the poor conditions of the roads here.
