Congress activists staged a protest here against the BJP-Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government, alleging that it had failed to check the prices of essential commodities.

The party workers yesterday protested across the city against the state government by shouting slogans like 'abki baar...Mahangi sarkar', which has completed one year in office.

Since this government took charge on October 31 last year, the prices of essential commodities, including onions and pulses, have risen high, city Congress president Sharad Aher said today.

Former state minister Shobha Bacchav and some local Congress corporators also participated in the agitation wherein they took out a 'mahangai rath' (chariot of inflation), displaying on a board the high prices of essential items.

Meanwhile, the BJP's city unit did not hold any celebration on the completion of one year of its state government.

Instead, the party started a "no celebrations, only communications" drive to spread information among people about the government's decision taken during one year, BJP's city unit president Laxman Savaji said.
