The Congress today requested the Chhattisgarh Governor to quash the nomination papers of Saroj Pandey, BJP's candidate for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from the state, questioning the eligibility of its proposer MLAs.

The party said in a memorandum to governor Balramji Das Tandon that proposers of Pandey in all four sets of nominations are BJP MLAs who also hold the post of parliamentary secretary.

Petitions challenging the appointment of these MLAs as parliamentary secretary were pending before the High Court, it said.

The Opposition party cited the disqualification of 20 Aam Aadmi Party MLAs in Delhi in January for holding the post of parliamentary secretary, considered an 'office of profit'.

A delegation of Congress led by its nominee for the Rajya Sabha, Lekhram Sahu, submitted the memorandum to the governor.
