"It is very important not to indulge in nitpicking...It could have been made in a moment of emotion, he must have expressed gratitude. What is important for public life is the way he conducts once he occupies the Constitutional post," party spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters here.

He was replying to a question on whether it behoved a Constitutional functionary to sing his loyalty for a political party.

Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh minister, Aziz Qureshi, who has been appointed as the Governor of Uttarakhand, yesterday said it was his long association and commitment to the party that has led to him get the gubernatorial office.

The former minister said he had "always been loyal to the Gandhi-Nehru family", and his appointment showed that loyalty was rewarded.

"It is only because of the blessings from Sonia Gandhi that I have become Governor of Uttarakhand," he had said.

Qureshi said that he joined Congress in 1951, and worked for the party at every level.

The Congress spokesperson also dismissed the BJP's criticism on the appointment of former SPG chief B V Wanchoo as Goa Governor.

Tewari said that the former SPG chief was also part of that organisation in the NDA dispensation.
