However, in comments that can fuel controversy, party spokesperson Renuka Chowdhary said on a regular basis, there are reports of some women and children committing suicide as it is not possible to enter someone's mind to see why somebody is committing suicide.
"I am saying all farmers are not committing suicide due to same reasons...There is a need to see why they are committing suicide," Chowdhary said.
She also rejected the contentions that there is no support system for the farmers driving them to such a step.
"There is a support system" she said adding that several steps have been taken by the UPA to solve the problems of farmers including the waiver of loans to them.
"No single formulae is being found out so that we can say that stop this. There should be some social awareness, an integrated plan. We are living in different times. Earlier there used to be community help," she said.
Her remarks came on a day when BJP and Shiv Sena attacked Congress and its general secretary Rahul Gandhi over the spate of suicide in Maharashtra and termed the UPA government as "killer". PTI AMR
