Congress, RLD stage walkout from UP Assembly over Jats reservation

Speaker Mata Prasad Panday said that the issue could not be discussed as the issue belonged to Centre and the Court

Press Trust of India Lucknow
Congress and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) members today staged a walkout from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly after they were not allowed to hold a discussion on the inclusion of Jats in the central list of Other Backward Classes (OBC).

As soon as the House assembled for the day, Congress and RLD members demanded a discussion on the issue, however Speaker Mata Prasad Panday refused to hold any such discussion in the assembly.

He said that it could not be discussed as the issue belonged to Centre and the Court.

When pressed to hold the discussion, the Speaker said that nothing will go on record and it could not be allowed.

When Congress and RLD members did not get the permission they walked out of the House.

The Supreme Court yesterday set aside the notification issued by the erstwhile UPA government to include Jats in the Central list of OBC for according benefits of reservation to them.
