Delhi Congress today accused AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal of "betraying" the power consumers, a day after government told Delhi High Court that the erstwhile AAP government had made no budgetary provisions for 50 per cent waiver on power arrears of people, as it had promised.

Mukesh Sharma, chief spokesperson of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, alleged: "Kejriwal-led government had made people fool by making such false promises."

"Kejriwal betrayed the power consumers in this matter. In the 49-day rule of AAP, Kejriwal told so many lies and his lies were being exposed through government documents. Kejriwal should apologise for telling such a white lie," Sharma said in a statement.

Sharma said that the budget presented by Kejriwal in the Delhi Assembly had not made any provision for giving subsidy to over 35,000 electricity subscribers. "It was also a part of the political drama to give subsidy in the electricity bills upto March 31 in Delhi," he said.

Yesterday, the city government today told the Delhi High Court that erstwhile Arvind Kejriwal-led cabinet's decision to give 50 per cent waiver on power arrears of people, who did not pay their bills from October 2012 to December 2013, cannot be implemented due to non-allocation of funds for the same in the budget for 2013-14.
