Congress tonight sought explanation from PCC delegate Prof Virender over an audio clip in which he is accused of talking to a Khap leader in order to allegedly incite violence amid the ongoing Jat agitation.

Prof Virender, a close aide of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, said the voice in the clip was his, "but the conversation has been doctored".

"We have sought an explanation from him (Prof Virender)," Haryana Congress President Ashok Tanwar said.

He said in the notice sent to Prof Virender by the party, a copy of the clip has been attached.

"We have sent the clip circulating in social media and allegations have been levelled that he has been instigating protests to start in other districts which were completely peaceful, that too seeking support from our rival party INLD," Tanwar said over phone.

"In the notice, we have mentioned that it is outright, irresponsible behaviour and not expected of him. Prof Virender has been asked to reply within three days, failing which the party will initiate disciplinary action against him," he said.
