Congress today urged the Union Territory government to hike the monthly assistance for fishermen from Rs 1,200 to Rs 3,000.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at the meeting of fishermen's wing of the party's local unit here.
PCC leader A Namassivayam and the fishermen's wing leader Bodhiraj were among those who spoke.
Another resolution sought sanction of relief to fishermen who suffered damages to their nets and vessels during the cyclones in the past.
