Congress today requested the President Pranab Mukherjee to direct Telangana government to implement the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Act for acquiring land for various projects in the state.

In a memorandum submitted to President, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) also urged Mukherjee to direct the TRS government to lift prohibitory orders imposed in some villages where irrigation projects are being taken up, and also to lift "false cases" against villagers.

"The government of Telangana is unfortunately violating all constitutional and legal norms thereby the farmers, land tenants, agricultural labourers artisans have become most helpless and vulnerable. And their very survival is endangered as the government is unwilling to provide the rehabilitation, resettlement and fair compensation.

"The present government is disregarding the principles of democracy and ruthlessly suppressing the voice of the people," TPCC stated in their memorandum.

Congress also accused Telangana government of acquiring lakhs of acres of land across state "in the name of irrigation, industrial and power projects."

Congress has been protesting against the government over the issue of land acquisition for Mallanna Sagar Irrigation project and redesigning of some other projects.
