Congress today said that the BJP- led NDA government at the Centre would be squarely responsible if the situation in Kashmir Valley were to deteriorate in the wake of the release of separatist leader Masarat Alam.
Party spokesman Ajoy Kumar told reporters that the way the whole issue has played out, it seemed like a "fixed match" between BJP and PDP, who share power in J-K.
The remarks by the Congress spokesman came on the heels of Home Minister Rajnath Singh telling Parliament today that the J-K government has conveyed to the Centre that Alam's activities were under watch and legal action would be taken if anything adverse was noticed.
Singh said the Centre has issued an advisory to the state asking it to pursue "vigorously" all the 27 criminal cases against Alam and take steps to challenge orders granting him bail.
