Union Minister Uma Bharti today attacked Congress on the Ishrat Jahan issue, saying it shows what "extent" the party can go to pursue its "appeasement politics."
She also insisted that the party be "washed away" from the country.
"All I want to say is that Congress always did (played) communal politics. And for them, meaning of communal politics was politics of appeasement only.
"And this (Ishrat case) is the example to what extent they could go. That's why I will say that Congress should be totally washed away from the country," Bharti said.
She made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a seminar 'Multi-purpose Development of Water Resources and Present Challenges', organised here as part of 125th birth anniversary celebrations of B R Ambedkar.
Targeting Congress further, the Water Resources Minister said the party always played "dirty politics" of dividing communities on religious lines and cited the Partition as an example in this regard.
"Congress had divided the country in the name of religion. It is in its character to divide the country. Even now it wants the country to be divided in the name of religion. The Chidambaram episode shows that their thinking has always been like this," she added.
Ishrat was killed in an encounter by Gujarat police in 2004.
A court-monitored CBI probe had found the encounter fake and a major row erupted after the then Home Minister P Chidambaram filed in September 2009 a second affidavit which, unlike the first, did not make any reference to her suspected LeT links.
