Congress today accused the BJP of 'compromising' the dignity of the swearing-in ceremony and said the saffron party has turned the upcoming event, wherein new government under Devendra Fadnavis will take oath on October 31, into a festival.

"The decorum and seriousness of the swearing-in has been lost," Congress spokesman Anant Gadgil said.

Questioning how a minority government can take oath without securing support for a simple majority, he said, "I can understand the excitement of BJP as they have won the largest number of seats. But still it has not reached the magic figure of 145 (in House of 288).

"NCP and Shiv Sena have not given them letters of support and hence BJP has a minority government. How can a minority government take oath when it does not have numbers," he said.

Gadgil alleged that crores of rupees are being spent on the swearing-in function, to be held at Wankhede stadium in South Mumbai, and demanded to know the source of funding for the event.

"BJP used to call Congress corrupt, now they should tell us from where the money is being raised for the event," the Congress leader said.
