Congress today attacked the Centre for reducing the proposed number of crisis centre for women amid the spotlight on women safety issues in wake of the controversy surrounding interview of Nirbhaya gang-rape convict.

"How serious is govt on #WomenSafety. PMO cuts 660 rape crisis centre proposal to 36. Is govt expecting rape victim in Pune to travel to Mumbai," senior party leader Ahmed Patel wrote on Twitter.

Congress has been targeting the government on issues concerning women safety for the last few months reminding it of the promises made by BJP leaders in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls.
