Members of opposition Congress today staged a walkoutin Chhattisgarh assembly seeking action against a senior IAS officer for his reported verbal spat with state Congress state chief Bhupesh Baghel on the Assembly premises yesterday.

As the House assembled forthe Question Hour, Baghel raised the issue through breach of privilege motion demanding action against the officer. "How can we work if a member of executive tries to suppress us," Baghel said.

Soon, Congress Legislators raised slogans demanding action against the officer.

Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal said he has received the privilege motion notice and ensured the members that he would take appropriate action.

However, the Congress legislators continued to shout slogans accusing the government of giving complete relaxation to the officers to work at their own will and said there was no control of the government over them.

Congress Legislative Party Leader TS Singhdeo said, "The incident had taken place before media, and such behaviour is not expected from an IAS officer. It happened on the Assembly premises, but the official didn't get time till day to tender an apology."

Baghel said the incident took place yesterday but neither the official concerned has apologised, nor any Minister or CM had called him and enquired about the incident.

State Revenue Minister Prem Prakash Pandey, while agreeing that the incident was unfortunate said the state government was committed towards protecting the rights and dignity of legislators.

The minister stated that whatever action the Speaker recommends, the state government was ready to comply with it.

Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal ruled that he would take appropriate action over it.

However, unhappy with the ruling, the Congress legislators staged a walkout.

A verbal spat reportedly broke out between Baghel and IAS officer GS Mishra yesterday on the assembly premisesover the issue of alleged NoC given for mining in catchment area of a dam in Raipur district.
