The Students wing of opposition Congress has criticised the 'failure' of the AINRC government to implement the Right to Education Act (RTE) brought in by the previous UPA government at the Centre.

A resolution adopted at their consultative committee meeting, chaired by PCC leader A Namassivayam here today, said the RTE Act envisaged allocation of 25 per cent of seats in private schools for children from poor families. However the government here had 'failed' to enforce the Act, it said.

Charging the government with encouraging private schools to adopt fee structure as per their whims and fancies, it said though the student stir in Puducherry Central university had brought to the fore many discrepancies, government was keeping silent without intervening in the matter.

It said they would soon launch a massive stir if government did not prevent private schools from levying higher fees.
