The Congress took out a bullock cart rally here today in protest against rising petrol and diesel prices.

The party accused the BJP of "betraying" the people by not fulfilling the promises it had made before elections.

Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot led the protest and announced that the party would organise demonstrations in all district headquarters in the state on the issue on September 28.

The protesting Congressmen rode bullock carts, camels, horse carts and rickshaws across the town to express their anguish over rising fuel prices, according to a party statement.

Some Congressmen also wore garlands of vegetables as a mark of protest against rising prices of vegetables, that hit the poor and common people hard, according to the statement.

Pilot asked the government to reduce prices of diesel and petrol, saying it was "robbing" the common man by imposing high excise duty.

The angry public will "teach a befitting lesson" to the BJP in the next elections, he said.

He said the state of affairs across the country was bad and the sufferings of the poor and the common man were increasing due to rising prices of various commodities, including petrol and diesel.
