Congress plans to contest the forthcoming local body elections in Madhya Pradesh by raising the issue of corruption against BJP government in the state, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Satyadev Katare said here today.

"The Congress is fully prepared to contest the coming local body elections. The party will field candidates capable of winning the polls," Katare told reporters at the Indore Press Club.

"The party will focus on BJP's working style by raising issues like corruption, MPPEB scam, power crisis, flaws in public distribution system and various other local and political issues," he said.

He alleged that the state government is part of a conspiracy to close down Madhya Pradesh's government run power generating companies so that these could be handed over to private companies to benefit them.

He said in July, the state government had presented a surplus Budget, but slipped into a deficit after the Global Investors' Summit held in Indore during October.

Katare alleged that during the summit, the state government made a lot of unnecessary expenses and cited the example of advertisements displayed at bus stands in Delhi and Bangalore.
