Cong to finalize candidates' list for Delhi assembly poll

After series of meetings and confabulations, Congress is all set to finalise its candidates for all 70 constituencies tomorrow when filing of nominations for the December 4 assembly election will begin.

The list of candidates will be finalised at a meeting of Central Election Committee to be chaired by party President Sonia Gandhi.

The party is likely to nominate all the sitting 43 MLAs barring a few who are facing serious criminal charges.

Sources in the party said candidates for around 60 assembly contituencies have already been finalised and a decision on remaining 10 seats will be taken at tomorrow's meeting.
 

The Screening Committee, headed by Union minister V Narayanasamy, held a series of meetings to finalise the list of probables for all the constituencies.

Sources said the Screening Committee had kept as pending applications of three sitting MLAs -- Dayanand Chandila (Rajouri Garden), Jaswant Rana (Narela) and Asif Mohammed Khan (Okhla) who are facing criminal charges.

A meeting of the party's Central Election Committee on October 28 had taken a decision that the names of candidates will be announced after Diwali.
