Congress today said there was no wave in favour of Narendra Modi in Punjab and the party would emerge victorious in the Lok Sabha elections due to "strong anti-incumbency mood" against ruling SAD-BJP in the state.

"There is no wave in favour of BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in Punjab in whose name the Akali Dal-BJP alliance is seeking votes rather than on its own performance which has come under question from various sections," Punjab PCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa said.

He was addressing a meeting of BKU (Mann Group) at Batala.

"The strong anti-incumbency wave coupled with the strategy scripted under the leadership of the party President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, is all set to give a sweeping victory to Congress-PPP alliance," he said.

Congress party's decision to field stalwarts in Punjab has also sent "shivers down the spine" of SAD party which was expecting "easy win" in the polls.

He said Congress would give a crushing defeat to the "autocratic and corrupt" ruling alliance in the elections.

He also took pot shots at SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal, saying the "so called strategy" and "tactics" of the Deputy Chief Minister would not succeed this time.

"He (Sukhbir) will get the biggest shock of his life the day the results are announced," he said.

The PPCC Chief said Congress rank and file in Punjab was determined to seek revenge for the "vendetta" unleashed by the ruling dispensation, he said.
