The Maharashtra Congress will launch a three-day agitation, beginning January 29, against the steady rise in the rates of petrol and diesel which it said amounted to "looting" the common man.

The decision to hold the protests was taken at a meeting of senior party leaders here, said state unit Congress president Ashok Chavan.

"There is a lot of resentment against the price hike among the people," Chavan told reporters.

He reiterated the Congress' demand to bring petroleum products under the ambit of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
