Ahead of the mega kisan rally being organised by it, Congress today vowed to fight tooth and nail any attempt to bring back the controversial land ordinance in any form.
"If government tries to bring the land bill in some form or other, we will fight tooth and nail. We will not allow passage of any bill which is against the interests of farmers" senior party leader A K Antony told reporters.
Antony said the danger to farmers on the issue has not totally disappeared despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement that his government would not repromulgate the Land ordinance.
This was because Union Ministers have been saying that the states are free to bring their land laws, meaning thereby that there would be attempts by the backdoor to bring the bill, he said.
Antony was addressing a joint press conference along with former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, senior leader Motilal Vora and party's chief spokesman Randeep Surjewala on the eve of the rally at the historic Ramleela ground.
Replying to questions, Hooda and Surjewala dismissed charges that the erstwhile Congress government in Haryana gave land to several developers including Robert Vadra, son-in-law of party chief Sonia Gandhi.
"Not an inch of land was given to Vadra or any developer by the Haryana government when Congress was in power", they said.
