The war of words between Congress and TRS continued today with their leaders trading charges as election scene hots up in Andhra Pradesh, where they are pitted against each other.
Telangana Congress leaders hit out at TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao over his critical comments against them.
In a blistering attack on Telangana Congress leaders, Rao, who has ruled out merger or even an electoral alliance with Congress, charged them with failing to protect the interests of the region while in power.
Voicing opposition to certain villages in Khammam district, facing submergence due to Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project, being made part of Seemandhra and AP Bhavan in Delhi going to the residuary state, he asked the Telangana Congress leaders if they can reverse the decisions.
The Congress-led UPA government has not accepted demands like granting special status to Telangana and according national status to an irrigation project in the region as sought by TRS, he said.
Taking exception to his comments, Telangana Congress president Ponnala Lakshmaiah said TRS is not even in a position to get suitable candidates for the upcoming local body polls in the region, which will attain statehood in June.
"TRS is in such a pitiable condition that it is not even in a position to file nominations fully. Who would believe what TRS says. Has he ever kept his words? Because we belong to backward classes, he is speaking to us with arrogance," Lakshmaiah said.
