Congress today welcomed the understanding reached among Iran, USA, Russia, France, UK, Germany and China on the contentious nuclear issue.
"The end of years of deadlock and the 'Lausanne' Framework agreement, on the parameters of a comprehensive settlement June 30, 2016, is a development of great significance. This will surely contribute towards regional stability and also in phasing out of the financial and economic sanctions against Iran.
"It has been a consistent view of the Indian National Congress, that, the Iran Nuclear issue should be resolved peacefully through diplomacy and dialogue," party spokesperson and former Commerce Minister Anand Sharma said.

"The understanding reached with the association of the IAEA is reassuring. This should now result in a lasting solution that meets the satisfaction of all the concerned parties," Sharma said.
External Affairs Ministry had yesterday welcomed the understanding reached between Iran and the six world powers on Tehran's contentious nuclear programme and expressed hope that this would lead to a comprehensive agreement by June 30.
After marathon talks in Switzerland, Iran and six world powers agreed on Thursday on the framework of a potentially historic deal aimed at curbing Tehran's nuclear programme, a major breakthrough in a 12-year standoff.
The framework, agreed between Iran and the West, raised hopes that the deal could help stability in the Middle East.
Iran has agreed to curtail its nuclear programme in return for the lifting of punishing sanctions.
