Women activists of Congress staged a demonstration near Raj Bhavan here today protesting against the Centre's decision to hike the price of LPG and withdraw subsidy on it.

Led by state Mahila Congress president Sasmita Behera, the slogan-shouting protesters burnt posters and placards of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

"We strongly condemn the decision of the central government to hike the price of LPG by Rs 4 every month. BJP got the votes of women by making false promises before the election and now they have decided to hike the price of LPG by Rs 4 per cylinder every month," Behera told reporters.

Demanding immediate roll back of the decision, she said if the Centre fails to withdraw the decision the agitation would be intensified as the common people would be hit hard due to the move.

Odisha PCC President Prasad Harichandan also joined the demonstration.

The protesters submitted a memorandum addressed to the President Ram Nath Kovind to Governor S C Jamir highlighting their demand.
