Cong worker who set himself ablaze, dies

A 40-year-old Congress worker who was battling for life after setting himself ablaze at a public meeting of the party here to press its demand for the special category status to Andhra Pradesh, today succumbed to his injuries.

Demanding the special status, B Muni Kamakoti had doused himself with kerosene and set himself on fire a few minutes before the commencement of the meeting near the Municipal Corportation Office here, yesterday.

Police today said, Koti, who suffered 80 per cent burns, was immediately rushed to SVRR Government Hospital here, but after his condition turned serious, he was shifted to Vellore CMC Hospital in Tamil Nadu, about 110 km from here, last night.
 

He died this afternoon, police said.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, actor-turned-politician and Janasena party chief, K Pawankalyan and other leaders in the state expressed grief over the death, the party said.
