Hundreds of Congress workers held a demonstration in front of their party office here today to condemn the Tamil Nadu government's decision to release all convicts in the former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

The protesters, including a large number of women, were lead by the city unit President Bal Purnekar.

They shouted slogans against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for her decision to free the convicts in the wake of the supreme court verdict of commuting death sentence of three convicts.

They also set on fire the effigy of the AIADMK chief on the occasion.

The protest caused traffic snarls in the busy area.
