Six Congress workers were today briefly detained after they staged a protest against BJP leader Subramanian Swamy who was in the city to address a press conference.

"These workers had gathered outside a hotel near Ashram Road where Swamy addressed a press conference this morning. We detained them as they were shouting slogans on the road and released them after two hours," said the Ellisbridge police station officer Pravin Parmar.

Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said Swamy was trying to defame Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi.

"Youth Congress workers staged a demonstration because Swamy is talking all kind of nonsense about our leaders without any proof. As he has been sidelined in his own party, he is trying hard to be noticed by (Prime Minister) Modi," said Doshi.

At the press conference, Swamy demanded a CBI or ED probe alleging that there is a possibility that a shell company with Rahul Gandhi as Company Secretary and Director may have been formed in Britain.

Two days ago he had alleged that Rahul had declared himself a British national in documents before the company law authorities in that country. Congress had dismissed the allegation as "bunch of falsehood".
