Press Trust of India Amritsar
Congress today filed a complaint to Election Commission alleging that criminals, convicted for heinous crimes such as murder, were being imported to Amritsar with the "motive of intimidating and hoodwinking" its supporters and workers.

Karanpal Sekhon, the election agent of Congress candidate from Amritsar Amarinder Singh, in his complaint alleged that three notorious criminals convicted and sentenced for various jail terms for murder and other crimes were seen in the town.

He alleged that they were deliberately brought here at the behest of the ruling alliance to create an atmosphere of fear and terror among the people.

The complaint alleged that three criminals were spotted with Akali workers and leaders apparently to convey a message to their political opponents with obvious intentions.

Appealing to the commission to take strict note of the issue, the party sought immediate enquiry and directions to authorities concerned to ensure that these criminals were immediately removed from Amritsar.
