NDA key ally TDP today said the Congress and YSRCP were raising the issue of special category status for Andhra Pradesh only for political gains.

Senior TDP leader and Lok Sabha MP Konakalla Narayana Rao said that both the parties do not have moral right to blame BJP and TDP on the issue of special category status and alleged that Congress and YSRCP were responsible for the division of Andhra Pradesh.

"The two (Congress and YSRCP) parties are raising this issue for political existence in Andhra Pradesh," Rao said, while claiming that the Congress party and YSRCP have been routed in the State.

Stressing that TDP led by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was taking steps to attain special category status for the State, he accused YSRCP leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy of diverting the attention of people.

TDP statement comes on a day when Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of grant of special status to Andhra Pradesh, while YSRCP leader Reddy participated in a dharna at Delhi demanding special status.
