An African national was today arrested for allegedly making sexual advances to a woman in AECS Layout under Mahadevpura police station limits, a top police official said.

"We have arrested a Congo national for offering Rs 500 to a woman for sex on March 8 in AECS Layout," DCP East N Sathish Kumar told PTI here.

The woman, who is running an ironing shop, did not file the complaint then as her husband was away.

The Congo national has also given a complaint alleging that the woman, her husband and another man allegedly assaulted him, Kumar said.

The Congolese man is working in a software firm called Atos, the police official added.

A case has been registered and police are investigating.

Recently, four African nationals were allegedly attacked by a mob at Byrathi here after locals were reportedly "annoyed" with them for creating "nuisance" in the area. However, police denied any assault in the incident which took place on the intervening night of March 9 and 10, maintaining it was a verbal duel which resulted in "incidents of pushing and jostling".
