Congress today held BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central government responsible for the alleged attacks on the minorities across the country.

Punjab Congress President Partap Singh Bajwa, in a statement here, said the latest in a series of such attacks was the desecration of a church in Delhi.

He said even US President Barack Obama had taken strong notice of the communal cleavage that was deepening in the country.

"Minority communities are feeling insecure ever since the Modi government came to power at the Centre. The members of the Sangh Parivar, including some Union ministers, have been issuing provocative speeches one after the other.

"There has been no check. Even the international community has taken strong notice of the increasing communalisation of the situation during the last few months," he claimed.

He said on the one hand Modi was talking of taking the country to a higher orbit of development but at the same time, "regressive forces within his own party are creating an atmosphere that is anti-development".
