Congress civic poll candidate attacked

A congress candidate contesting for the April 15 Kolkata Municipal Corporation election was today attacked with bombs by goons in broad daylight, police said.

Congress leaders alleged that the attackers were TMC goons, who threw bombs at their candidate for ward number 133 Mumtaz Ali near Mudiali Road in the Port area.

"The incident proves the kind of terror the TMC is trying to unleash. We feel that free and fair polls are not possible under the TMC government," Congress leader Pradip Ghosh said.

State Urban Development Minister and TMC leader Firhad Hakim said, "Opposition parties are trying to foment trouble as they do not enjoy the support of the masses.
