In the wake of reports that a Dalit boy was beaten by a teacher for allegedly touching plates of other students, Congress today condemned the incidents of atrocities on the community and said it would hold an agitation if such episodes are not controlled.

"If the Vasundhra Raje government does not control these repeated incidents of atrocities on Dalits, Congress will hold agitation in near future," AICC Scheduled Caste Cell's office bearer and in-charge of Rajasthan unit Ruchi Gupta said.

Gupta alleged that incidents of atrocities on Dalits in Rajasthan were rising and the BJP government was not ensuring action in such cases.

"A Dalit family in Jajhawar village of Bundi district was not given ration from the Public Distribution System and the family members were treated very badly which is to be condemned," she said.

Another incident was reported from Mewanagar of Balotra Sub-Division where a former Sarpanch was allegedly murdered by anti-social elements recently while a case of caste-based discrimination was reported in Osian where a student was harassed, she said.

The district administration and police were not taking cognisance of such cases, Gupta, said, adding, Congress would hold a statewide agitation demanding protection of Dalits' rights, she said.
